From Rescinded to Rehired: Your Staffing Solutions

Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening—wherever you’re joining us from. Thank you so much for being here today. My name is Deirdre O’Regan, and I’ll be your host for Dream Jobs, our monthly show where we explore opportunities for beginning your journey as a healthcare professional living and working in the United States.

We’re very excited for today’s session. Some of you may unfortunately, find yourselves in a situation where a job offer has been rescinded, particularly if you accepted a position in the direct hire space. If that’s the case, today’s conversation is all about you. Over the next 30 minutes, we’ll walk you through your options and answer your questions so you can move forward with confidence.

As you may or may not know, AMN Healthcare International is the only organization that offers both direct hire and staffing opportunities. If you do find yourself in this difficult situation, we highly recommend exploring the staffing pathway. And again, AMN Healthcare International is uniquely positioned to provide both options.

If you haven’t yet applied, you can do so at amnhealthcare.com/international. We’ll also be sharing a map of available opportunities across the U.S. as we go through the program.

Before I introduce our guests, I’d love for you to share in the chat where you’re joining from. I can already see Ryan from the Philippines and Bush Kay from Nigeria—thank you both for being with us today!

Now, rather than listening to me for the full 30 minutes, I’m thrilled to say we have two amazing guests joining us. We’ll hear from:

  • Joy Bansag, Placement Manager with our Direct Hire team,
  • Jenny Sartore, International Recruiter on our Staffing team.

What’s really important to highlight is that while they represent different areas, we all work very closely together every day as one organization with one mission: finding the perfect opportunity for you. So, to get us started, I’ll first invite Jenny to introduce herself, followed by Joy. Then we’ll dive into today’s discussion.

Deirdre (Host):
Hi, Jenny.

Jenny Sartore:
Hello, everyone! My name is Jenny Sartore. I’ve been with AMN for about five years, and I absolutely love what I do with the International Staffing Division. Working with nurses like you is one of my favorite parts of the job. Every day I’m excited to connect with you and help you achieve your dreams.

Deirdre (Host):
Wonderful—thank you, Jenny. Okay, now let’s turn it over to Joy. Many of our listeners may already know you, but for those who don’t, could you give us a quick introduction?

Joy Bansag:
Hi everyone, good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, wherever you’re joining from. My name is Joy Bansag, and I’m a Placement Manager with AMN. I’ve been with the company for more than 20 years, so I’ve seen a lot—including previous periods of retrogression, like what many nurses are experiencing right now. What I truly love about my work is seeing nurses finally make it to the U.S. and knowing I played a part in helping them reach their dreams. Thank you.

Deirdre (Host):
Thank you both for being here. We already have lots of great questions coming into the chat, which I absolutely love. Please keep those coming—we’ll get to as many as possible during the show. I see Fred from Kenya, Anna from Trinidad and Tobago… we’ve got such amazing global representation today, and I’m so glad to have you all with us.

So Jenny, let’s start with you. For those listening right now, how can they take the first step to apply with AMN International and get connected with a recruiter like yourself?

Jenny Sartore:
This is live, so we may have some technical issues—can you repeat that question for me?

Deirdre (Host):
Of course! How do our listeners apply to AMN International and connect with a recruiter like you?

Deirdre (Host):
Looks like we’re still having some technical difficulties with Jenny’s connection, and that’s perfectly fine. Joy, let’s go over to you. Can you talk us through what’s happening right now in the direct hire space?

Why Staffing is the Stronger Option During Retrogression

Joy Bansag:
Sure. At the moment, the demand for direct hire opportunities is slowing down. It’s not like before, when we had interviews almost every day. With retrogression, many hospitals are reducing or pausing interviews and hiring. That’s why staffing opportunities are really the best option right now—especially with AMN, since we have many staffing opportunities available across the U.S. for nurses.

Deirdre (Host):
Thank you, Joy. We’ve been hearing on social media and from our own nurses that job offers are being rescinded, and many listeners today may be in that situation. What would you say to someone considering staffing instead, and can you explain the difference between a staffing opportunity and a direct hire?

Direct Hire vs. Staffing Pathways: Key Differences

Joy Bansag:
Of course. Here’s the key difference:

  • Staffing Pathway – Especially during retrogression, staffing is the stronger option. Once you accept an offer, we can file your green card within 30 days, which means you secure your priority date quickly. That’s very important, because during retrogression it’s essentially a waiting game until your priority date becomes current. And with AMN’s staffing program, there are plenty of placement opportunities across the U.S.
  • Direct Hire Pathway – With direct hire, you need to wait for a hospital to sponsor your green card, and right now the demand is very low. That means fewer interviews and longer wait times. If you really want direct hire, you’ll need to wait until a hospital is ready to sponsor you.

So in short: staffing allows you to secure your green card filing and priority date quickly, while direct hire involves more waiting—especially in the current environment.

Deirdre (Host):
Okay, that’s great advice, Joy. So if I’m hearing you correctly—and I just want to make sure we’re capturing this clearly for our listeners—if your goal is to get to the United States quickly but you’re focused on a direct hire opportunity, you’re going to have to wait. The opportunities just aren’t as plentiful as they were a few years ago. Is that right?

Joy Bansag:
Yes, that’s correct. And in addition, I want to point out something about rescinded offers. It’s not just happening in one organization—it’s happening across many, especially now with the recession and retrogression. We hear it from our nurses, we see it on social media. But if this happens to you, don’t worry. With AMN, we can recapture your case and retain your priority date. That means we can refile your case within 30 days, and you’ll still keep your priority date. Plus, we have many opportunities waiting for you in our staffing division.

Securing and Recapturing Your Priority Date

Deirdre (Host):
Exactly. Let’s pull up that map again—you can see we have staffing opportunities all across the United States. And as Joy mentioned, that pathway is the most secure right now, especially given the current direct hire landscape.

So Joy, let me ask you this. We’ve heard a lot about rescinded offers—on social media and directly from our clinicians. Is this something new, or have you seen it before?

Joy Bansag:
I’ve been in this market for more than 20 years, and over half of that time I’ve worked purely on direct hire. I’ve seen many periods of retrogression, and in every case, there are always challenges and uncertainty. So yes, rescinded offers aren’t new—but what we’re seeing right now feels more widespread and difficult compared to past years.

Deirdre (Host):
Got it. So what our listeners and clinicians are feeling right now is something that’s happened before, but it’s amplified by the current environment. The good news is that if you’re working with AMN Healthcare International, you do have staffing opportunities available—and that’s key.

How to Apply to AMN Healthcare International

And I think we have Jenny back with us! This is live, so of course, sometimes we run into a few technical hiccups—especially on a Monday morning. Jenny, I’m going to pull up a quick slide showing just how easy it is to apply to AMN International and speak with a recruiter like you. Can you walk us through the process and why the information we ask for is so important?

Jenny Sartore:
Absolutely. The process really is as easy as ABC. Once we’ve confirmed that you’re a qualified candidate, we’ll send you an email with a link to complete an application, a skills checklist, and a few immigration questions.

It’s really important to provide accurate details up front—like your last three years of work experience, nurse-to-patient ratios, and your job title. If those details are missing, it can delay your application and sometimes even lead to rescheduling interviews.

The skills checklist is another critical piece—it helps us understand your clinical experience so we can match you with the right opportunities.

Once you’ve completed everything, you’ll be able to speak with us directly. And just a note: please don’t be nervous for these conversations. I usually start by cracking a few jokes because I know it can feel intimidating. But really, there’s no need to overthink it—you already know this job, because you do it every day. Just be yourself, and let us guide you through the process.

Deirdre (Host):
I love that—don’t be nervous. You’re already a clinician working in an acute care environment, and Jenny and the recruitment team are here to put you at ease. That really is the most important thing.

We know this process can sometimes feel overwhelming, and we want you to feel supported by AMN Healthcare International—especially if you’re in the difficult position of having a job offer rescinded. That can be disappointing and unnerving. You’ve put so much energy into getting where you were, and suddenly it feels like the dream has been taken away. But it hasn’t. We’re here to tell you that you do have other options.

You’ve already heard from Joy how easy it is to apply and speak with our recruitment team. You might connect with Joy, you might connect with Jenny, but remember—we are all one team under the AMN Healthcare International umbrella.

So Joy, let me turn back to you. What would you say to someone who’s in that position right now but hasn’t yet considered a staffing opportunity?

Joy Bansag:
Staffing is really the best option right now. Even if you already have a priority date, we can recapture your case and retain that priority date. We even use premium processing to make it faster. And importantly—you still get to choose. We don’t just assign you somewhere; we schedule you for interviews with different hospitals based on your preferences. That’s why staffing is the strongest option at this time.

Deirdre (Host):
Thank you, Joy. And Jenny, what about someone who already has an employment agreement they’re reviewing but they’re not sure whether they should accept? What advice would you give them?

Jenny Sartore:
My advice is: get your questions in right away. Our team is here to answer anything—usually within 24 hours. If it’s a simple question, like which English exam we accept, we can answer quickly by email. But if it’s more detailed or something that might get lost in translation, we’ll schedule a call so you get a clear explanation.

And then—sign as soon as you’re comfortable. It’s much better to secure your priority date now than to delay. With staffing, we can file your case immediately, often within a month, so you’re not stretching out the process longer than it needs to be.

Deirdre (Host):
Perfect. Thank you, Jenny. So, you’ve heard it from both Joy and Jenny: if you want to get to the U.S. quickly—whether you’re a new applicant or someone whose job offer has been rescinded—the focus should be on getting your I-140 either filed or recaptured as soon as possible. That’s something our staffing division can do for you very quickly.

Jenny also mentioned English exams. In some cases, depending on the state or your situation, you may need to retake an English exam. That’s where your recruiter will guide you. We’ll make sure you understand exactly what’s required.

And if your job offer has been rescinded, we will prioritize your application. We know how upsetting that is, and we want to move quickly to get you matched with your next opportunity.

Now, you may be asking yourself: Why should I choose AMN Healthcare International? Well, first of all, we have over 40 years of experience working with international clinicians and their families. The numbers speak for themselves—you can see on this slide just how much experience and reach you get when you choose AMN, and you’ll be working with outstanding recruiters like Joy, Jenny, and the rest of our team.

What’s most important, though, is that you get your questions answered. Both Joy and Jenny mentioned this—choosing an organization to partner with, especially if you’re moving your entire family, is a very big decision. We welcome your questions, because we want you to feel confident and supported every step of the way.

Common Myths About Staffing Opportunities

Now, speaking of questions—let’s clear up a few common myths about staffing. This next slide may look familiar if you’ve joined us before.

One myth we often hear is: “I cannot choose my location—it’s assigned.”

Joy, is that true or false?

Joy Bansag:
That’s false. You absolutely have a choice. We have plenty of options, and you will decide where you want to go.

Host (Deirdre):
Okay, so that is false. Let’s pass this one to Jenny. Jenny, do applicants need to pass their English exam before applying — true or false?

Jenny:
That’s false. We only ask that you have enough conversational English to speak with us and complete the interview. We’ll let you know when it’s the right time for you to take your English exam.

Host (Deirdre):
Perfect. So those are two of the biggest myths out there when it comes to staffing opportunities.

  • Myth one: You don’t get to choose where you go. You heard it from Joy, who has been in direct hire for almost 20 years — that is not true. The more specific you are about location, the longer you may wait, but you do get a choice.
  • Myth two: You must pass your English exam before applying — also not true.

And here’s the important part: one advantage of retrogression is that you have time — especially if you’re a new applicant whose priority date is within the last 6–12 months. You have time to consider and choose where you want to be.

If you take away one thing from today’s session, let it be this: don’t let myths mislead you. We want you to have the right information to make an informed decision.

Now, I don’t want to go through all of the myths, but I do want to highlight why you should strongly consider a staffing opportunity.

We’ve talked about our years of experience, and we’ve shown the map with opportunities across almost every state in the U.S. Staffing really is the best option right now in this environment. As Joy mentioned, this is a very challenging time if you’re only looking at direct hire. That’s okay — you can still wait if that’s your preference, but it may take much longer to find an opportunity that matches your experience.

Staffing, on the other hand, acts like your safety net. If for any reason your staffing job offer is rescinded, your employer is AMN International (through O’Grady Peyton International), and we will find you another position. That’s why staffing provides more placement confidence.

We understand how disappointing it can be when an offer is withdrawn, and that’s why we’re here — to help you every step of the way and guide you toward your next opportunity.

Expert Advice for Nurses Considering Staffing

Before I let Jenny and Joy go, I want to give them each a chance to leave you with some final words of advice.

Jenny:
My biggest advice is: get your application in and complete your interview. That’s one less step to worry about. Then sign your contract as soon as possible — that way, you’re in line and have your “ticket.” Think of it like a deli counter — you won’t miss out. The sooner you sign, the sooner you’re secured. And remember, AMN is here to fully support you from start to finish. That’s the best part about joining us — you’ll get undivided attention throughout your journey.

Host (Deirdre):
Thank you, Jenny. That’s such an important point — choosing an organization that supports you every step of the way is key. Immigration is not an easy process. I’ve been through it myself coming from Ireland, and I always say on these shows: I wish I had an organization like AMN International when I went through it. It can be overwhelming, costly, and stressful — but you don’t have to do it alone.

Joy:
My advice is: do not wait for retrogression to be over. Retrogression will come and go, but what’s important right now is to get your application submitted and secure a priority date. There are things we cannot control, but there are also many processes we can complete even during retrogression. Trust the process. AMN will be here to assist you from start to finish — guiding you, supporting you, and holding your hand all the way through until the end of your contract.

Host (Deirdre):
That’s wonderful advice. Thank you both.

Host (Deirdre):
Thank you both so very much for lending your expertise today. I know all of our listeners now feel more confident about submitting an application if they haven’t already. For those of you currently in process and who asked questions, we will get back to you quickly with answers.

If you’re still sitting on the fence and not quite sure, please reach out and have a one-on-one conversation with us. Everyone’s situation is unique, and we want to be sure you receive personalized guidance to make the best decision for you and your family.

So once again, thank you to Joy and thank you to Jenny. I would love to have you both back on a future show. Hopefully today’s session was helpful to everyone.

I’m going to stay on a little longer to answer some additional questions. We have quite a few, so I may not get to all of them, but I’ll do my very best.

Question from Joanna:
“Do you only have staffing opportunities now, and not direct hire?”

Answer:
No — we are still the only organization that offers both staffing and direct hire. The purpose of today’s show was to highlight why, right now, staffing is often the best pathway. Direct hire opportunities are more limited at the moment, as many clients are not committing to interviews. You’ve also probably seen on social media that direct hire job offers are being rescinded. That’s why staffing is such an important option. But yes — we are still recruiting for direct hire. Just know that it may take longer to find a match.

Another question:
“Do you consider new graduates who just graduated?”

Answer:
At this time, our clients are looking for current acute care experience. The facilities we work with across the U.S. want candidates with bedside experience, because it prepares you better for your transition to the U.S. My recommendation is: secure a position at home, gain that experience, and then reach out to us so we can get you started in the process.

Next question:
“What happens if my job offer was rescinded after recapturing my priority date? Will my DQ (documentarily qualified status) go backward or stay the same?”

Answer:
Each situation is unique. When you work with AMN International, you are assigned an immigration coordinator who will walk you through your case step by step. You’ll also receive both financial support and process support. That’s really important, especially if you’ve already invested a lot of money to get this far.

By choosing AMN International and the staffing pathway, you not only get financial help, but also assurance that we will find you another position quickly — particularly if your priority date is current or close. Your recruiter will prioritize your application and guide you to the next available opportunity.

So again — if you’re in the unfortunate position of having a job offer rescinded, know that you do have options. We’re here to help.

If you haven’t applied yet, visit amnhealthcare.com/international. Our recruiters, like Jenny, Joy, and the rest of the team, are ready to assist you.

Michelle, I see your comment — “I like AMN.” Thank you so much, Michelle! We’re so glad you’ve had a positive experience, and we hope to help your friends and colleagues in the same way.

We’ll continue answering more questions for you throughout the day, but we are now at time. Can you believe it? That was the quickest 30 minutes ever!

So, once more:

  • If you haven’t applied, please do so today.
  • If your job offer has been rescinded, let us help you find your next opportunity through our staffing pathway.
  • We can recapture your I-140 or, if you’re a new applicant, get it filed for you — often within 30 days, faster if your file is complete.

Remember — focus on doing the next right thing, and let us handle the rest. With AMN, it really is as easy as A, B, C.

Thank you all so much for tuning in. I look forward to seeing you again next month on Dream Jobs. Have a wonderful week, everyone. Bye!
