Accommodation in Australia
Many healthcare facilities offer free lodging onsite or at reasonable rates. Most accommodations offer shared facilities and many provide a pool and tennis court for your leisure. If the hospital does not offer accommodations, O’Grady Peyton International’s housing specialists can find lodging that meets your budget from rental properties, shared houses, motels and more.
Visas and Work Permits
The type of visa and/or work permit you will need for nursing jobs in Australia depends on your age. If you are from Britain, the Netherlands, Ireland or Canada and you’re under 28 years of age, you may be eligible for a Working Holiday Visa (WHV). You can apply for a WHV at the Australian or New Zealand High Commission in your own country.
If you are older than 28, you will need a work permit. These are sponsored by individual healthcare facilities and are approved by the Department of Immigration. To be eligible for a work permit, you need to commit to working for an employer for a minimum of 12 months.
Registration
Are you a registered nurse from New Zealand, looking to work in Australia? If so, you can gain mutual registration recognition in most states in Australia.
Nurses from countries other than New Zealand will need to fill out applications with the registration board or council of each Australian state where they intend to work.
We will provide assistance with the necessary registration paperwork. It’s all part of the support O’Grady Peyton International provides traveling nurses.
